The Town of Mountainair, New Mexico, is mourning the passing of Lynda Christine Engle Goar, who died peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 79. Her death has left family, friends, and the local community remembering a woman whose life was defined by faith, devotion to family, and years of dedicated service.
Born on March 1, 1947, in Mountainair, Lynda was the daughter of William and Clara Engle. She was raised in the community and attended Mountainair schools from elementary through high school. One of the accomplishments she treasured most was being invited to join P.E.O. in 1965, an honor that reflected her lifelong commitment to service, friendship, and supporting others.
On September 2, 1966, Lynda married the love of her life, Glenn Winiford Goar. Together they built a family, welcoming two sons, Dale and Dewayne. Throughout their years together, they created a home centered on love, faith, and enduring family traditions.
Professionally, Lynda worked for many years as a payroll clerk at Mountainair Electric Co-op. Colleagues and friends remember her as a dedicated employee whose reliability, strong work ethic, and warm personality made a lasting impact on everyone she worked with.
Above all else, Lynda’s greatest joy was her family. She was known for her unwavering support, always encouraging loved ones to pursue their dreams while celebrating their accomplishments. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the family lake, where generations gathered to enjoy summers filled with laughter, cherished traditions, and unforgettable memories. She also found happiness in playing card games, completing puzzles, and spending quality time with those she loved.
A devoted woman of faith, Lynda was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mountainair, where her Christian beliefs remained a guiding force throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Clara Engle; her husband, Glenn Winiford Goar; her son, Dale Goar; her granddaughter, Ashley Reneé Goar; her sister, Jo Ellen Montjoy; and her brother, Robert “Bob” Lee Engle.
Lynda is survived by her son, Dewayne Goar; her grandson, Ty Goar; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Family and friends will have an opportunity to pay their respects during a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Mountainair. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed immediately by graveside services at Mountainair Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dewayne Goar, Ty Goar, John Montjoy, Charlie Montjoy, Jimmy Autrey, and Larry Autrey.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Make-A-Wish New Mexico or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, causes that reflected Lynda’s caring and generous spirit.
Lynda Christine Engle Goar will be remembered for her unwavering faith, compassionate heart, dedication to her family, and years of service to the Mountainair community. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will continue to live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. May she rest in eternal peace.
