The Bucyrus, Ohio, community is mourning the unexpected passing of Dr. Attila Z. Nagy, DDS, MS, who died on Friday, June 26, 2026. A respected orthodontist, educator, and co-founder of Oakwood Dental, Dr. Nagy’s death has left his family, patients, colleagues, and the wider dental profession grieving the loss of a compassionate clinician and visionary leader.
Dr. Nagy co-founded Oakwood Dental alongside his wife, Dr. Michelle Nagy, in 2006, building the practice into one of Central Ohio’s most trusted providers of general dentistry and orthodontic care. Throughout his career, he became known not only for his clinical expertise but also for the genuine relationships he formed with patients, many of whom viewed him as both a healthcare provider and a trusted friend.
Originally from Hungary, Dr. Nagy immigrated to the United States in 1991 in pursuit of educational opportunities. His journey became an inspiring story of determination and perseverance. While adapting to life in America, he worked as a nanny and learned English by watching educational television programs alongside the children he cared for, laying the foundation for a remarkable academic and professional career.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Entomology from The Ohio State University before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the same institution. Driven by a passion for lifelong learning, he later obtained a Master of Science in Specialized Orthodontics from the International Medical College in Münster, Germany.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nagy championed a comprehensive approach to patient care that emphasized the connection between oral health and overall wellness. He became widely recognized for integrating orthodontics with sleep and airway management, believing that proper jaw alignment and healthy breathing could significantly improve long-term health. His dedication to continuing education led him to lecture extensively and mentor fellow dental professionals throughout Ohio and beyond.
He was an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Ohio Dental Association, the Central Ohio Dental Association, and the European Orthodontic Society. Colleagues admired his willingness to share knowledge and support others, describing him as a generous mentor whose influence extended far beyond his own practice.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Nagy pursued a wide range of interests with enthusiasm and discipline. He earned a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, enjoyed boxing and skiing, and developed a passion for beekeeping. He also cherished life on his homestead with his wife, Michelle, their children, Adrianna and Dominik, and the many animals they lovingly cared for.
Following the announcement of his passing, heartfelt tributes have poured in from patients and colleagues alike. Many have remembered his contagious enthusiasm, sense of humor, and sincere commitment to improving the lives of those around him.
One longtime patient recalled his ability to make even complex treatments feel reassuring through his compassion and positive attitude, while fellow dental professionals praised his mentorship and generosity in sharing both clinical expertise and professional guidance.
In response to Dr. Nagy’s passing, Oakwood Dental announced that its Bucyrus offices will remain closed for one to two weeks to allow his family and staff time to grieve. The practice has indicated that patient scheduling and emergency care arrangements will be communicated as operations gradually resume.
At this time, funeral and memorial service details have not yet been publicly announced. The family has stated that additional information will be released through official channels in the coming days.
Dr. Attila Nagy is survived by his wife, Dr. Michelle Nagy, their children Adrianna and Dominik, extended family members, and the countless patients and colleagues whose lives he positively influenced. His legacy of compassionate care, innovative thinking, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to his community will continue to inspire generations of dental professionals and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
